Services
Sometimes ships are docked for just a day before heading out to sea for weeks, far away from everything and everyone. A seafarers’ house tries to meet those needs, both big and small. Contacts with loved ones back home, small practical purchases, a friendly chat, practical information, …
Ship visitors
Daily, ship visitors go aboard the newly docked ships. They provide information, answer questions, and arrange for phone or data cards. They are the frontline assistance of our organization.
Bus service
The Port of Ghent extends over many kilometers. A daily bus service transports the seafarers to and from the seafarers’ house and, for those who wish, to the city center and back. This service is offered free of charge by the Ghent Port Authority.
Bar
The epicenter of the Seafarers’ House. Relax at the billiard or ping-pong table, or by the satellite television. At a cozy table inside or on the summer terrace. Daily from 5:30 PM to 10:30 PM.
Communication
By far the most important thing for our sailors is contact with their loved ones back home. For free Wi-Fi and internet and data cards, and their technical aspects, they can turn to us.
Shop
There is usually not much time for shopping ashore. They can find basic products in our little shop.
Clothing
Sailors are sometimes away for months and not always prepared for Belgian weather conditions. At the Seafarers’ House, there is always a stock of free second-hand clothing available.
For those who wish, there is a quiet prayer room. The wooden sculpture was created by the former pastor of Breskens, Omer Gielliet († 07/05/2017).
